What We Do

The work carried out by the ISTRM includes:

    • Conducting public consultations and obtaining relevant recommendations and concerns  with regard to the proposed CTUR Bill;
    • Analysis of reports by the past commissions and/or mechanisms, to identify any shortcomings and to make recommendations that can be implemented by the proposed CTUR  ;
    • Studying relevant legislations and reports of other jurisdictions to develop a report on lessons learnt and best-practices for the proposed CTUR;
    • Developing a formal and unifying national narrative on building truth, unity and reconciliation in Sri Lanka;
    • Drafting Procedures and Guidelines for the consideration of the CTUR ;
    • Engaging with stakeholders for consensus building on the proposed CTUR;
    • Engaging with local and international partners for technical expertise and support;
    • Developing content and/or carrying out media campaigns for public awareness;
    • Developing a robust case management system to maintain and track case records once the proposed CTUR is formally established.
