The ISTRM met with representatives of the Sri Lanka Collective for Consensus (SLCC) on the15th of November 2023. SLCC representatives included Dr. Visaka Dharmadasa, Ven. Kalupahana Piyarathana, Dr. Pakiasothy Saravanamutu, Dr. Jehan Perera, Dr. Joe William, Dr. Dayani Panagoda and Mr. V. Kamaladhas. During the meeting, Dr. Asanga Gunawasa provided a background into the establishment of the ISTRM and current progress on drafting a Bill to set up a Commission for Truth, Unity and Reconciliation. He explained aspects of the proposed commission, emphasizing victim-centric evidence collection. SLCC expressed support, offering to share feedback and connect ISTRM with civil society groups. Dr. Dayani Panagoda emphasized prioritizing the truth element in order to make the commission more meaningful and effective. Dr. Saravanamuthu suggested involving the military to obtain their input and support. SLCC expressed its willingness to collaborate with a strong focus on truth-seeking. Signing a MOU was suggested as an initial step as part of the support that can be given by the SLCC.
